Front Desk Manager

Job Summary:

The Newport Car Museum is one of the premier car museums in the world, with over 65,000 visitors a year and hundreds of visitors daily from all over the world. The front desk manager at the Museum plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere, and facilitating smooth daily operations. This position involves greeting visitors, providing information about exhibits and events, managing admissions, and supporting administrative needs. The ideal candidate should have a passion for cars, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a busy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Visitor Interaction:
    • Welcome Museum visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor.
    • Provide information about Museum exhibits, tours, events, and membership opportunities.
    • Answer questions about exhibit hours, ticketing, and other services.
  2. Admissions and Ticketing:
    • Handle ticket sales and process admission fees and memberships.
    • Ensure smooth entry for guests, including providing information about the museum.
    • Maintain a record of admissions and assist in managing group bookings or special events.
  3. Customer Service:
    • Address and resolve any inquiries or issues from visitors, ensuring they have a positive experience.
    • Direct visitors to other museum facilities, like the gift shop or rest rooms and provide directions to exhibits.
    • Assist in promoting museum events and other activities.
  4. Administrative and Clerical Support:
    • Manage Museum reservations for school groups, private tours, or events.
    • Handle incoming mail, deliveries, and packages for the museum.
    • Monitor and manage the front desk area to ensure it remains clean, organized, and welcoming.
  5. Technology and POS Management:
    • Operate the point-of-sale (SQUARE) system for ticketing and transactions.
  6. Security and Safety:
    • Monitor visitor activity at the front desk and ensure compliance with museum rules and safety protocols.

 

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, or museum/gallery settings is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a diverse audience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a busy environment and maintain composure under pressure.
    • Familiarity with point-of-sale (SQUARE) system and basic office software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace)
    • A passion for cars, art, history, or culture and a general understanding of museum operations.
    • Friendly, professional demeanor and the ability to represent the museum’s mission.
    • Must maintain a professional appearance.

Work Conditions:

  • Work Hours: Full-time (5 days including weekends), 9:00 – 5:00
  • Location: Newport Car Museum
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience
