Coming in December: 2021 Shelby Mustang GT500KR

An American Edition for an American Tradition

As the Ford Mustang approaches its 60th Anniversary (in 2024) and its place in history as one of the longest-running automotive models in the world, the Newport Car Museum recognizes and celebrates this iconic American brand with the addition to its collection of a 2021 Shelby Mustang GT500KR.

Now in our expansive Ford/Shelby Gallery, this new acquisition is a tribute to the “King of the Road” Mustangs and among the limited number of GT500KRs being built by Shelby American based on the 2020-2022 GT500s. The GT500KR is extremely limited; only 60 per model year (180 total) are available in the U.S., and the entire production sold out the same day the GT500KR was announced. (Ours is build #14 for 2021 and one of the first out of the factory.)

The GT500KRs feature a larger supercharger pushing more than 900 horsepower, a vented dry carbon fiber hood, one-piece forged mono-block wheels, Borla exhaust, improved suspension and a reworked interior.

This is only the third time in history that a version of the Shelby GT500 has carried the KR “King of the Road” designation. This car completes the Museum’s assemblage of all Mustang KRs produced, including the 1968 Coupe, ‘68 Convertible and 2008 Coupe.

All to say…The King of the Road is back!
