ABC at Newport Car Museum – “Ford vs. Ferrari”

Just before the television airing of the Academy Awards in February, WLNE (our Providence ABC affiliate) made a cool connection between the Newport Car Museum’s Ford/Shelby Gallery and the Oscar-nominated “Ford vs. Ferrari” movie. We have one of the most significant Shelby collections in the country, including an authentic Shelby Cobra 427 SC (one of only 31 produced); a 289 Cobra, with extensive racing history (produced for “Gentleman Tom Payne”); an original Shelby Series 1, and many Shelby Mustangs.

The GT40 in the collection is a perfect replica of the GT40 that Shelby worked on for the 1965 LeMans (seen in the scene where Ford lost in its first attempt at Le Mans). This replica was used in the “Fast Five” movie (of the “Fast and Furious” series).
