The 840 hp 2018 Dodge Demon is a purpose-built drag racing car that can be driven on the street. It comes standard with only the driver’s seat; optional for $1 each are the passenger back seat, radio, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats, carpeted trunk, sunroof and satin black paint on the hood. The objective in making these items optional is to obtain lightness. The ability to delete the standard equipment sheet translates into the Demon’s 200-plus pounds of savings over the 2018 707 hp Dodge Hellcat.
Then there’s the “Demon Crate”, another $1 option that is a box containing all the go-fast track goodies, including special front drag wheels, tires and a floor jack to install them.
With mind-blowing horsepower and 770 ft-lbs of torque, the 2018 Dodge Demon is one of the most powerful V8 cars ever produced. To that point, it can lift its front wheels off the ground in a “wheelie” position for 2.92 feet, making it the first production car ever to do so, and it is certified by the Guinness World Records.
In testing at Gainesville Raceway in Florida, the NHRA certified the Demon as capable of running the ¼ mile in 9.650 seconds at 140 mph, making it the quickest and most powerful streetcar ever built by an American manufacturer. In fact, it was banned by the National Hot Rod Association, because it is too fast for the street car class.
